Although Newton was born in New Jersey, she was raised in Virginia. As she entered high school, her mother gave her a guitar, prompting her infatuation with folk music. After graduating from high school, she attended Foothill College in Los Altos Hills, CA, where she continued to play folk in coffeehouses. During this time, she met Otha Young , a fellow guitarist and songwriter.
The two formed a folk-rock band called Dixie Peach and began playing bars around northern California. Dixie Peach only lasted a year, but they did gain a local following while they were active. They were also more successful. Their fan base was large enough to convince the band to go to Los Angeles and try to land a record contract. Later that year, the group released After the Dust Settles , which didn't attract much attention, and RCA dropped them after its release.
The band signed with Capitol Records, releasing Come to Me in Like its predecessor, the album was more or less ignored, causing the Silver Spur to disband. Though Silver Spur had broken up, Newton and Young continued to work together. Newton still had a contract with Capitol, and the pair immediately began working on her solo debut.
The result, Juice , was released in early and quickly became a crossover hit. The first single from the record, "Angel of the Morning," reached number four on the pop charts, and it peaked at 22 on the country charts. Juice and her family live in San Diego, California, and she would not have it any other way. Perhaps the biggest loss to her and the band members and fans was the passing of Otha Young.
Otha was Juice's best friend, but he was also band leader, manager and songwriter. Otha's passing was very difficult for all that knew him. For Juice, whose career was built with that foundation, this was particularly hard to endure. Time moves on and Juice continues to record. Through the ups and downs of a professional career, Juice has never forgotten who it is that placed her on top of the charts.
She adores her fans!!! No Tour Dates for Monday-Friday: 9am-5pm Saturday: 11am-4pm Sunday: Closed. The pair formed the folk-rock group Dixie Peach with bassist Tom Kealey and continued playing around coffeehouses and local bars around northern California. With the help of some of the top session musicians in Los Angeles, the group released their self-titled debut album, which spawned the single "Love Is A Word," a radio hit in With Capitol, they released Come To Me , but unfortunately this album had the same result as their previous one.
After the split, Newton and Young continued working together with Capitol Records. Newton released two albums on the label Well Kept Secret and Take Heart , both of which failed to chart. Newton just wasn't catching on, but that was about to change in a big way. The album itself went platinum and reached 22 on the album charts. Unfortunately, the follow-up album Dirty Looks failed to maintain the momentum. After this record, she would release one more top hit single, "Tell Me True" in , from the album Emotion.
She returned to the studio in when she released The Trouble With Angels , which featured re-recorded hits and entirely new material.
