During the opening credits, when the camera pans around Paul Walker 's room, a toy model of the car is visible on the dresser. This took John Dahl 4 years to get made. During the course of the movie, watch the LED signal strength indicator lights on the brothers' CB radio. The first four indicator lights change colors in nearly every scene, including bright green, dark green, yellow, red, and crimson.
This is obviously intentional and not a series of continuity errors. In fact, it's an accurate portrayal. CB's with an LED signal meter do in fact go from amber to green to red, with weakest signals being amber and, and medium strength being green, and red for VERY close signals.
Roberts and Steve Zahn would appear in National Security Between and , during original filming and all the re-shoots which included changing the ending few times, there were several versions of the film which were shown at various test screenings over the course of entire two years long production.
Some for example included two different actors voicing Rusty Nail Stephen Shellen and Eric Roberts , and some didn't include the scene where Lewis and Fuller are forced to go naked into the diner, instead in those versions after the scene where they and Venna realize that Rusty has kidnapped Charlotte they are told by him to go to the cornfield as shown in the alternate Rusty Nail voice actors video on DVD and Blu-Ray.
But each version of the film would always get great response from test audiences. And there was at least one version in which Charlotte is killed by Rusty. Article about the film published in Fangoria included a picture showing Fuller in a motel room looking at Charlotte's dead mutilated body on a bed. This scene was filmed during re-shoots and it was the part of one or more new endings. It wasn't included with other deleted scenes and alternate endings which were released on DVD, all of which were taken from different workprints of the film, which explains why each scene is in different quality.
These workprints had even more deleted scenes which were never officially released. It closed in after roughly 70 years of operation because changes to Highway 50 made it difficult for travelers to stop there.
Tobey Maguire was considered for the role of Lewis. In one scene, a seemingly maniacal ICE truck pulls up to a gas station that the brothers have pulled up to.
In Duel released the same year as the car they were driving; a Chrysler Newport , a likewise maniacal truck pulls up to our hero David Mann and a small billboard for ICE is visible in the background. Filmed under the title of "Squelch". According to Steve Zahn in the audio commentary, the first scene inside the motel room, where Lewis and Fuller are listening through the wall, was actually shot on a set built inside a former aircraft hangar, the same hangar where Howard Hughes built the Spruce Goose.

But what is known about him is that he is a homicidal lunatic, he has an extremely aggressive temper, and all who cross his path are completely at his mercy.
One thing known about him is that he owns a farmhouse out in the country where he lives when he is not on long haul trucking jobs the barn attached to it is where he enjoys torturing his victims.
Another thing known about Rusty is that he has at least above-average physical strength especially considering that he does not seem to have a very burly build , shown by the fact that he is able to tear a man's jaw off with one hand. He punishes those who he sees as committing some form of injustice especially when he himself is the victim of it, though he has punished those who have wronged others besides himself, as well , whether it is pulling a prank on him, taking one of his cars, or refusing a request.
He has some quite nasty psychological mind games that create a bridge for gory, life-and-death situations that are very rarely escaped by his victims. His face is hardly ever shown, but he would normally talk to his soon-to-be victims through the CB radio. In Joy Ride 3 , his full appearance is finally shown throughout.
Throughout the three movies, the make and model of his truck remain the same, a black Peterbilt EXHD. However, the year of the truck is different. In Dead Ahead , it is a , and in Road Kill , it is a At the end of the movies, his truck gets destroyed, and he possibly steals another Peterbilt truck.
