How does mklink work




















Hard Links are implemented with multiple file table entries that point to the same inode — the same as Unix hard links. If the original filename is deleted, the hard link will still work - it points directly to the data on disk. It is possible but not advisable to create two links that point to each other in a loop, or a link that targets itself. Symbolic links can expose security vulnerabilities in applications that aren't designed to handle them.

Careers Hiring. For Bootcamps. Blog for Business. As I finish an assignment, I remove that symbolic link and create a new one for the next assignment. Of course, this means that the target folder is always changing as I move from assignment to assignment.

This has saved me an immeasurable amount of time and frustration. As you can see, since I'm working on the command line and the target path contains long names with spaces, I have to enclose the target path in double quotes. However, even though the path is very long, while I was working on this article, the only folder I had to remember was CurrentWork.
